California is at the point of political exhaustion. A package of budget answers was defeated overwhelmingly on May 19, shredding a fragile compromise. Coming up with a new set of answers, while the economy worsens and interest groups clamor, has pushed the state near the breaking point.
June 15th is the deadline.
