    File Sharing: March 2006.

Yesterday’s world cost money. Today we just need to know where to look.

    This is an update

Because I know the frustration of wanting every thing in the world right here and now, and not knowing where to start, I here present the
    OFFICIAL MONEYDICK FILE SHARING GUIDE:

In this beginner’s guide, I’ll be showing you

    1. How to search your local network for shared files
    2. The remaining websites that distribute digital content
    3. How to painlessly share your files with your school
    4. How to set up a Hub
    5. Mac Solutions
    6. EXEEM (skip to this step if you’re lazy)
    7. Not Getting Caught
    8. Music and Movies the easiest way possible

1: How to search your Local Area Network (Windows) Before MP3 Voyeur, one had to open Windows Networking and wait for it to slowly populate the searchable local computers while listening (and waiting) for ‚ÄòI‚Äôm here‚Äô voices from the hundreds (or thousands) of computers on your network. MP3 Voyeur, a handy LAN searching application, pings hundreds of computers while searching for a specified file; in this case, it’s an MP3. Here‚Äôs a more official explanation:

MP3 Voyeur is an MP3 search utility that crawls local networks (LANs) in search of MP3 and other file types. MP3 Voyeur is designed only to list files that are actually accessible, unlike many of the Web-based MP3 search engines which can yield outdated links. It allows you to sort and save your search results, play MP3 files from their source folders, or open source folders for file access. The latest version has improved network searching, adds support for those of you behind firewalls, and searches for many other file types besides MP3.

Click here to go to a download page. This means you can see who is sharing music, movies, or love letters. To get your friend’s computer compatible with this program, have them look at number (3) in this guide.
2: The Remaining Websites that Distribute Digital Content
Torrents are the way to go. Steer clear from distributed networks connected to programs like KaZaa and WinMX. Torrents are far more anonymous and faster. A torrent is either an actual file or a collection of files. When you download a small file with the extension of .torrent, you are in posession of a file that instructs a program on your computer where to get pieces of the file that the .torrent file is responsible for. For a Wikipedia definition, click here.
To get these so-called Torrent files, you’ll need to find a tracker website where you can download them. My current favorite is ThePirateBay.org, but there are many many others. You should start with ThePirateBay.org.
A sad fact of this business of file-sharing is that many site operators wish to take their site’s popularity straight to the bank by clogging their site with advertisements. others: Before Checking these sites below, try searching using this tool: Combined Torrent Searcher.

    Novatina.com
    Mininova.org
    Torrentkube.org
    Torrentreactor.to
    Torrentbox.com
    Newtorrents.info
    ISOhunt.com
    Hypertorrent.com
    Mybittorrent.com
    Torrentportal.com
    Torrentcrawler.com
    Torrentreactor.net
    Bitoogle.com
    Snarf-it.org

Once you’ve got your .torrent file, open it with a program like uTorrent (windows). It should know what to do with it. For Mac, I recommend Azureus .
Working up in the port range of 30000+ works for many as well.
3: How to Painlessly Share your Files (Windows)
Throw your stuff in a folder. Right click on it. Click on sharing. In the sharing properties, enable sharing (and share this folder under a descriptive name). Once you click ok and it does its thing, you will be sharing all your goods with people within the local net. People can search through your goods with Mp3 Voyeur, mentioned earlier…. If they have Windows of course.
Extra: How to forcefully share your files with a particular person on your LAN: Find out your computer name. If you already know it, skip ahead. If not, right click on ‘My Computer’ on your desktop and click on ‘properties.’ Under the tab ‘computer name’ you should see your computer’s name. If you want to give a friend a link to your shared files (a friend who is using the same residential net, or within the school’s boundaries or on the school‚Äôs wireless system) just send them this: computername . If you know a friend’s computer name, you just need to put theircomputername into the dialog box that pops up after you go to Start, Run (or windows button + r).
Insert this mycomputername in your aim profile for safe keeping and rapid publishing. Anyone who clicks on this will see all the folders you shared.
4: How to set up a ‘hub’
For instructions on setting up a DC++ (Direct Connect) hub, click here.If you don’t know what it is, consider it a meeting place for people with files. It makes searching very fast, allows chat, and is much more stable than Windoze file sharing. These are the most popular file sharing areas for colleges, and are similarly the first to be shut down.
    5. Mac Solutions
If you’re unlucky enough to find yourself with a Mac in front of you, there’s still hope. Get Limewire [or Poison] or some crap like that for internet-based filesharing and get Ourtunes 4.3 to go with Itunes 8.6 for LAN-based music stealing. The only available iTunes right now disables Ourtunes (which allows you to download another user’s shared music) The NEW Itunes limits daily connections and makes Ourtunes difficult (but not impossible) to use. To install this earlier (but perfectly functioning) copy of Itunes, you will first need to uninstall your current version of Itunes. Your playlists won’t be lost. If they are gone in the older version, just go back to the newer one, lame-ass.

As a Mac user, you aren‚Äôt completely shut off from the Windows file sharers. If you want to explore Windows users’ shared folders, press command+k, and type smb:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (after the smb: there should be two backslashes) The xs must represent the user’s unique IP address. If your dumb friends don’t know their ip address, tell them to go here [whatismyip.com]. If all is smoothe, you should see their goods. I’m not going to define goods.
Depending on your fine institution’s network, you may be able to browse shared files by Dorm Name, residential hall, cell block, wing, or dungeon.

    6. Exeem
Though this program is in Beta testing (its bugs have not all been worked out) I recommend getting Exeem for your file stealin’ needs. It has worked fine for a friend a mine.

    7. Not getting Caught
For those of you who don’t like to pay fines to the RIAA/MPAA/Software companies follow these simple steps:
    a. Get peerguardian [windows] from here. This will block traffic from the bad guys. If someone working on a 5 year old computer at the RIAA tries to search through your shared music on KaZaa, they will be blocked at the kernel level, unable to see your machine, and sad that they are unable to feed their family with your fine $s. Visit Bluetack for more information on this revolutionary product.
    b. Don’t use Kazaa. If you’ve noticed, people who use Kazaa are getting sued. Grandmothers and nobodies, cats and dogs. It is a randomized bunch of poor folks whose only common bond is that their ISP allows the subpoena of traffic information. It seems these days that the schools are also extremely vulnerable. You’re in luck if your college is part of the Internet 2 network: You should be able to use a program called ‘I2Hub‘ that lets you quickly share files with participating college students.
If you have any questions about programs mentioned on this page, just fucking google it.

    8. I want movies and music, games, software, everything NOW
You’re in luck. There are some sites out there that make it extremely easy. You don’t need any experience with anything. Hell you don’t need to know how to use a keyboard. Mash here for free and easy downloads from ‘Shared Movies’
And if you want to poke around at your other options, try these out:

    1. Lightspeed Movies
    2. Net Movie Downloads
    3. And last but not least, Movies Direct Pro
